Founded in 1999 by Chicago actress Mierka Girten, the Mookie Jam Foundation seeks to provide financial assistance in the form of an annual cash grant to artists anywhere and of any discipline who have demonstrated financial need and are living with an M.S. diagnosis. Fully functioning with a seven member Board of Directors whose professional careers are founded in the arts and business, The Mookie Jam, commonly referred to as "The Jam" is a fundraiser party held annually featuring exquisite food and drink, Chicago's very best in live music, and a silent auction and raffle which always includes incredible retail gift certificates, high end beauty treatments and services, inspiring art, theater and sports tickets, and travel getaways. The Jam traditionally is climaxed with an in-person awarding of a financial assistance check to the recipient whose application has been approved and accepted. Mookie Jam has awarded over 10 artists who have suffered from M.S. with a total of over $60,000 in financial assistance.
