Board of Directors
Steven Bair is the owner of Statements, Inc., an apparel sales agency in Chicago. He is a founding member of The Mookie Jam Foundation and is honored to to be a small part of a group that truly makes a big difference.
Nicole Dragozetich has been an active board member of Mookie Jam for 6 years and is so excited to be part of the ten year celebration. She is very proud of the work and energy that has been put into the organization. Nicole is excited to recruit more Jammers and help more artists that are conquering this disease.
Gabrielle Giertz became acquainted with Mookie Jam while working with Mierka Girten at Saks Fifth Avenue in 2005. She ran the 2007 Chicago Marathon to raise money for Mookie Jam and was appointed to the board in 2009. Gabrielle finds Mierka's relentless passion for this cause infectious and is proud to be a part of the Mookie Jam Foundation.
Mierka "Mookie" Girten is a Chicago actress, proud member of A Red Orchid Theatre, and voice over artist. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1993; two years later, her mother was diagnosed as well. Battling this illness and raising awareness has been a major part of her life ever since. After receiving a grant from the Sweet Relief Fund (started by Lou Reed's wife), she realized that she wanted to help others with the disease, and founded Mookie Jam as a means to do so.
Larry Grimm joined Mookie Jam as a board member in 2010 after being a supporter and fan of the organization for some time. He has been an actor and teacher in Chicago for over 20 years. Larry directed Mierka Girten in the remount of her one woman show chronicling her battles with MS, With or Without Wings, in 2008 at A Red Orchid Theater where he is an ensemble member. He currently teaches drama at Chi-Arts, the new public high school for the Arts.
Angela Scalisi is a photographer/mixed media artist. She is the owner of Fenyx Framing, a discount custom picture framing shop located in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. She has been working with Mookie Jam for 5 years.
Michael Shannon is an accomplished actor for theatre and film. He has been a member of A Red Orchid Theatre since 1993 and has performed all over Chicago. His performance in 2008's Revolutionary Road received him an Academy Award nomination. After attending the Jam in 2009, and seeing the effect it had on recipient Timothy Cook, Michael turned to Mook and said: "I want to be on the board." He is honored to be a part of Mookie Jam.
Douglas Tippie will always remember the day he was asked to join the Mookie Jam Board with fondness. After a summer as a volunteer procuring silent auction items, he remembers the overwhelming positive feeling and response from people. MS affects us all and is one of the most pervasive and least discussed diseases, which is why he is so proud to be a part of MJ and help spread awareness. Douglas has worked with Mierka professionally and been her friend for many years. He has witnessed the ups and downs of MS as his own cousin is wheelchair-bound by this debilitating disease -- all of which contributes to his passion for MJ!
